Two years on from the horrific terrorist attack on a Christchurch mosque that left 51 people dead, Law Professor Alexander Gillespie looks at the advances in tackling racism, extremism and the terrorist threat in New Zealand, as well as the challenges that still need to be met.

15 March, 2019 is a day we must never forget, a defining point in the history of New Zealand. The premeditated attack on the Christchurch Muslim community took the lives of 51 of our fellow citizens and damaged many more. It was also a direct assault on our cherished ideals of multiculturalism.

The question, therefore, is what has changed two years on? There are three responses to that question – not all of them positive or reassuring.
